The Desire and Urge to Nest is Common
A few weeks before having their baby, many women report having a burst of energy and a strong desire to clean anything and everything. This phenomenon is known as nesting, and is our way of preparing for baby’s arrival. Once the baby is born, you’ll be tired and still recovering from delivery. The more you can get done before baby is born, the more time you’ll have for cuddling, recovering and bonding.
Prepping the Nursery
The most important, and really the only thing that you’ll need to get done is the nursery and all things baby. Here is a list of suggestions for tasks you’ll want to finish:
1) Clean and sterilize baby bottles
2) Buy formula (even if you plan to breastfeed, buy a container or two for back-up, just in case)
3) Buy wipes and diapers (get a few different sizes)
4) Wash clothes and put them away
5) Prepare crib
6) Clean room – dust, sweep and mop
I remember finding myself, at 37 weeks pregnant, sitting on a chair cleaning every single air vent in my air conditioner with a cotton swab and wondering why I felt so compelled to do this. Maybe that’s a little extreme, but try to get as much of your house cleaned as possible. Not only will you not have to worry about it for a bit, but your new baby will need a clean environment, especially in the first few weeks.
